Read moreUPI Circle is a feature that enables a primary UPI user to link a secondary user to their bank account for digital transactions. The secondary user does not need to link their own bank account to make payments. Instead, they draw funds from the primary user's account based on pre-defined permissions.
There are two primary delegation modes available:
* Full Delegation (Pre-Approved Limits): The primary user sets a monthly spending limit (up to Rs 15,000). The secondary user can make transactions instantly within this limit without requiring real-time approval for every purchase.
* Partial Delegation (Approve Each Payment): The secondary user initiates a transaction, but it remains pending until the primary user approves it on their device using their UPI PIN. This is ideal for monitoring larger or occasional expenses.
Setting up UPI Circle is quick and can be done through major UPI-enabled apps like BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm. Follow these simple steps to get started:
To ensure financial discipline and security, NPCI has established specific guidelines and limits for UPI Circle transactions:
* Transaction Limits: Under Full Delegation, the maximum limit for a single transaction is Rs 5,000, with a cumulative monthly limit of Rs 15,000 per secondary user.
* Cooling-off Period: To prevent fraud, there is a 24-hour cooling-off period after setup, during which the secondary user can only transact up to a maximum of Rs 5,000 in total.
* One-to-Many Linking: A primary user can add multiple secondary users to their UPI Circle, making it easy to manage expenses for the entire household.
* No Separate Bank Account Needed: The secondary user only needs a smartphone with a registered UPI app; they do not require an active bank account of their own.
While UPI Circle is highly secure, practicing good digital hygiene is essential to protect your hard-earned money:
* Only Add Trusted Individuals: Never add acquaintances or strangers to your UPI Circle. This feature is strictly designed for close family members and dependents.
* Monitor Transactions Regularly: Keep an eye on the transaction history tab in your UPI app to track the spending patterns of your secondary users.
* Revoke Access Instantly if Needed: As a primary user, you retain absolute control. You can pause, modify limits, or completely revoke a secondary user's access at any time with a single tap.
* Never Share Your UPI PIN: Remind your secondary users that they do not need your UPI PIN to make transactions under Full Delegation, and they should never share their own app passcodes with anyone.

By allowing secure, delegated payments, it empowers dependents to participate in the digital economy while giving primary account holders complete control and peace of mind.
